From The File Marked 'dadvisit08'

The bladder infection I had last week has come back with a vengence. I'm all sweaty. My back hurts. I'm a touch worried, actually.

In the meantime: Pictures!

EM was being such a pussy, so I had to do something ever so slightly unforgivable. I lured her onto a float, pulled her out into the middle of the lake, then I dumped her off. She screamed bloody murder at me, and made for shore with the fastest little dog-paddle she could muster. But once she realized that the lifevest really did exactly what everyone had been telling her it would do--namely, keep her afloat--she was hooked, and willing to swim pretty much everywhere on her own. Boy, on the other hand, never made it past ankle depth. And Missy would only go in if you were willing to let her maintain a death grip around your neck, and dig her toes into your swimsuit like a monkey. Mister says I have to wait until next summer to toss them in.

I wasted some money on some adorable, but utterly useless floats--a giant whale, and a slightly less giant shark. They were so cute and looked like so much fun on the pictures on the box, but in the water they had no stability and just rolled over. The kids took them up on the lawn and had a grand time with them up there. Here's Boy embracing his inner Ahab.

The body language of this shot speaks volumes. Clearly, EM and Missy are not the best of friends. This long, lazy summer has not done much to enrich the relationship either. I feel like I've spent the past two months saying nothing but, "EM be nice to your sister. Missy stop bugging EM. Girls, just shut up and deal with each other!"

The positioning of this shot is a little ambiguous, but that's what I love about it. She looks for all the world like she's half a meter from the end of a long and arduous free-style climb up a sheer, rocky cliff. And look at that face--by Christ, she's going to make it too! On the other hand, that's the same pained, constipated expression she has on her face in the lake when she's clinging for dear life to your neck.

Fabulous pics and gorgeous children, especially like the rock-climbing classic

Sometimes the laughter in mothering is the recognition of the ironies and absurdities. Sometime, though, it's just pure, unthinking delight.

Wonderful kid...Great pictures.

Little Miss is vicariously related to Chad - look at that grip - no chalk needed even! She made her uncle proud scaling that whatever it is!

The pictures are awesome, I could almost make out the invisible air that you could cut with a knife between the girls :)
