Well Done Sister Suffragette!

For the past few weeks, I've been seeing posts like this on ex-pat blogs cropping up the world over.  Finally, I get to add mine.

I'll give you three guesses who I voted for.  Okay, four.  I see Nader is on the ballot again, and I took the time to look up Bob Barr and the Libertarian platform--ol' Bob sports a very compelling 'stache, so it was a bit of a toss up.

This is the first time I've bothered with the whole process of registering abroad, and requesting an absentee ballot.  What can I say?  I hate the electoral college, and also, I'm mostly just lazy.  But this felt like a sufficiently historical, water-shed type moment that I felt pretty strongly about being a part of it.  So I jumped through all the bureaurocratic (a word I will have to look up each and every time I use it) hoops, and voilà--voting complete.

I was a little uncomfortable being asked whether or not So-and-so should retain his bench in the 3rd District Court, or if some other So-and-so should keep hers in the Appellate Court of Appeals.  Um, who? in the what now?  So I looked up all of their biographies, and made the rather arbitrary decision to vote 'No' on anyone who graduated anything cum laude from BYU, reasoning that any such person must be too wankerish to pass judgement on anything or anybody.

Upon reflection, I'm thinking that might not have been the most kind or responsible use of my civic privileges.

Bad suffragette!  Bad!

I live here and still don't know much about those judges in the third district :) Good for you for joining in on this one. I did the early voting thing here in Floirda, but I am sure there be another tally problem as our education budget continues to dwindle and most high school graduates are still using their fingers for basic addition.

Yeah, those BYU graduates are mindless idiots who I'm sure aren't capable of thinking for themselves. Good strategy!

I am still undecided on my presidential vote. I can't vote for McCain/Palin. But seeing that Obama is willing to spend $4 million on a prime-time infomercial about himself raises a big, red flag.

Shit, maybe I'll just bag the whole presidential thing and just stick to voting on the local government level.

Amy--

I did not call all BYU graduates mindless or idiotic. I merely opined that those holding latin honors were likely wankers.

Please to note the difference.

Furthermore--I wonder, given the fact that the money used to pay for the ad (and $150 million beyond that in September alone) was given to Obama by supporters who wanted to help him get his message--a message about which they are clearly passionate--out to as many voting Americans as possible--given all that, what else exactly, would you have had him do with that $4 million?

You cannot possibly believe that if McCain had had the money to spend he wouldn't have done exactly the same thing. It's what presidential candidates do--try to out talk the other guy. And from where I sit, from what I've read and what I've heard on the news this morning, Obama's ad buy last night so completely took over the news cycle, it looks very much like he's the only one doing the talking.

Is there a presidential election or something going on just now? I hadn't heard!

But on a different note, have you seen Little Britain US? Seriously funny.

Ever since reading the title of this post, I keep hearing the song from Mary Poppins in my head about women voters... "so long, sister suffragette!"

Thank you... no really.
Zoe watched that every day for about a month and I thought I was relieved of it... J/K
